What is Acne?

Acne is a skin condition which is determined by three main factors: Excessive oil production, acne-causing bacteria, and dead skin cells. Acne can be exasperated by diet, stress, medications, etc. Acne affects people of all ages, it generally starts to develop on the skin in teenage years.

Types of Acne

Inflamed and non-inflamed are the two types of acne. Inflamed acne is in the deeper layers of the skin, they tend to be painful and filled with fluid. Types of inflamed acne are pustules, papules, nodules, and cysts. Pustules are red with a white head containing pus. Papules are smaller red pimples. Nodules are firm pimples that are filled with hard liquid. Cysts are soft large pimples that are very tough to treat. Nodules and cysts should be treated by a dermatologist. Non-inflamed acne is white heads and black heads. White heads are open comedones that have a white tip. Black heads are closed comedones and have a dark tip due to lack of oxygen.
